Guidelines for speakers:

  • Prepare your 12-minute presentation (slides). No specific template is required.
  • Arrive at your session’s room at least 5 minutes before it starts to save your presentation on the room’s laptop. The session moderator will be there to assist you.
  • In case you leave your session’s room, please make sure you are back at least 5 minutes before the start of your presentation.
  • Each session typically consists of five presentations, each lasting 12 minutes, followed by a 5-minute Q&A.

Guidelines for moderators:

  • Arrive at your session at least 5 minutes before it begins and invite speakers to save their presentation slides on the room’s laptop.
  • Host the session and briefly introduce the speaker before each presentation.
  • Solicit comments and questions from the audience after each talk.
  • Facilitate discussions if there is time remaining.
  • Ensure that the session starts and ends on time.
  • In case of a “no-show,” do not start the next presentation earlier. Adhere to the timeframe on the agenda.

Keynote Speakers

Ales Fiala works for the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG R&I), European Commission, and he serves as the Head of Unit for Widening Participation at the European Research Executive Agency (REA).

Henrik Lund is a Danish engineer and Professor in Energy Planning at Aalborg University in Denmark. He holds a Ph.D. in Implementaion of Sustainable Energy Systems and a Dr.Techn. in Choice Awareness and Renewable Energy Systems. Henrik Lund is a highly ranked world-leading researcher. He is listed among ISI Highly Cited researchers ranking him among the top 1% researchers in the world within engineering. Henrik Lund is Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier’s high-impact journal Energy with annual 8000+ submissions. Henrik Lund is the author of more than 400 books and articles including the book ”Renewable Energy Systems”. He is the architect behind the advanced energy system analysis software EnergyPLAN, which is a freeware used worldwide that have form the basis of more than 100 peer reviewed journal papers around the world.

João Maciel is the Managing Director of NEW – Centre for New Energy Technologies, EDP’s R&D arm.  He was former Technology Development Director of EDP Inovação. João served on the Board of other EDP R&D initiatives, namely the WindFloat Project. He has 20+ years of experience in working in the energy sector. João holds a degree in Electrical Engineering – Power Systems from Lisbon University, an MBA from Portuguese Catholic University and advanced management studies from the London Business School.
